Latte ArtLatte Art is where you make patterns on top of a cup of espresso coffee. Probably a Latte style, but without the foam (and what I would call a flat white). Ask for a flat white at a good cafe in Australia and if you're lucky, you will get some free-pour latte art on your coffee.
Free pour and EtchingLatte art comes in two flavours -- free pour and etching. Free pour is harder to do and more respected, while etching usually looks more interesting. Sometimes the two are combined. Free pour involves pouring the milk in a special way to get a pattern, while etching involves using a skewer (or a thermometer by the more pragmatic barristas) to trace patterns on the top of the coffee.
My Latte ArtI'm not yet "good", and have lately been using skim milk which is much harder to froth properly. But I have had some success.
