Michele Zappavigna-Lee is a second year PhD candidate in the Language and Knowledge Management Research Laboratory. She has an interdisciplinary background, with a degree in Arts, majoring in English and Semiotics, and an honours
degree in Science, majoring in Information Systems and the History and Philosophy of science. Her thesis seeks to elicit tacit knowledge from IT professionals in organisations through linguistic analysis and develops a model of
under-representation in discourse. Her other research interests include the following:
Systemic Functional Linguistics and its application to information systems and knowledge management research
Tacit knowledge in science
The role of discourse analysis in assessing information systems
Organisational semiotics
Eliciting tacit knowledge from spoken discourse
More generally, she is interested in the ways research methods from the humanities can inform Information Systems and Knowledge Management research.
