Derek's Experimental Web Journal

This isn't really an academic blog at all. It just basically records the life and times of Derek J Corbett as he undertakes his PhD.

A bit earlier this month I got quite sporting. The first sporting event I took part in was the Lousberg Lauf which is a famous race in Aachen. It is a 5,555m race up and down a local hill and each year about 2000 people, mainly university students, take part in it.

With not too much training I was able to finish the race in 26mins and 6seconds. Anyway it was alot of fun and in typical German style at the completion of the race most of the runners went directly for a cool beer and a bratwurst.
The other sporting event I was involved in was the RWTH Electro Faculty Soccer Tournament. I played for the LTI^2 side. We didn't do too badly, but we didn't win. I was the only person on our team to score any goals, but then again I was the striker. I think I might take up indoor soccer when I get back to Australia.
