AIED 2003: STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS, TRAVEL AWARDS AND VOLUNTEER HELPERS
1. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
AIED 2003 will be awarding 2 scholarships for student papers:
JOHN SELF SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE BEST STUDENT PAPER
A scholarship of $US 1000 will be awarded to the best conference paper
first authored by a student, as judged by the Programme Chairs in
conjunction with a panel of judges. The prize is given in the name of
John Self in recognition of his great contribution to the field of
Artificial Intelligence in Education, and his role in establishing the
AIED society, the IJAIED and the AIED conference. All full papers
accepted for the conference will automatically be considered, where
eligible, for this scholarship.
MARTIAL VIVET BEST PAPER PRIZE FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS
A scholarship of $US 1000 will be awarded to the best paper accepted for
the Young Researchers Track, as judged by the Young Researcher Track
Chair in conjunction with a panel of judges. The prize is given in
memory of Martial Vivet, in recognition of his research in the field,
his contribution to the AIED Society and in particular his role in
making the AIED-99 conference in Le Mans, France, a huge success. All
papers accepted for the Young Researchers Track will automatically be
considered for this scholarship.
Winners of these scholarships will be announced in mid-June.
2. TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS
A number of TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS are available for AIED 2003, each worth
up to $US 500. Applicants for these must apply in writing to Helen Pain
(helen@inf.ed.ac.uk), writing a short statement (up to 250 words) on why
they feel they should be considered (plain text or .pdf preferred). They
should indicate also if they have a paper or poster in the conference,
or for a workshop or interactive event. They should also attach two
references in support of their application, preferably from supervisors,
members of their committee or other researchers (if preferred these can
be sent directly by the referee, in parallel). Priority will be given to
applicants with papers or posters accepted for the conference or for
workshops. The closing date for applications is Monday 15th June, with
decisions to be announced on Monday 22nd June.
3. AIED VOLUNTEERSHIPS
Applicants are invited to volunteer as helpers
at the AIED2003 conference in exchange
for free registration. Helpers will be required to work for up to 20
hours immediately before, during or just after
the conference: every effort will be made to ensure that
helpers can attend their preferred sessions. Please apply in writing,
enclosing a short statement (up to 250 words) on why you feel you should
be considered.
You should include a clear statement of your skills (such as
ability to help speakers with their equipment) and an indication
of your reliability and degree of responsibility.
Applications should be sent to AIED Organisation Committee
(aied@it.usyd.edu.au), as plain text or .pdf. You should indicate also
if you have a paper or poster accepted for the conference, or for a
workshop or interactive event. Please also ask two referees (e.g. your
supervisor and members of your committee) to send a reference in support
of your application, independently and in parallel, to the above address.
Priority will be given
to students or other applicants with papers or posters accepted for the
conference or workshops. The closing date for applications is
Monday 15th June, with decisions to be announced on Wednesday, 2nd July.
(Note that applicants who are not awarded one of the
limited number of student volunteerships will be eligible for the early
registration rate.)
STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR MORE THAN ONE OF THE ABOVE AND THESE
AWARDS ARE ALSO INDEPENDENT OF THE PRIZES.
