Teaching excellence

School of IT staff have been recognised and awarded both internally within the University and externally for their innovative teaching methods and dedication to teaching.

Faculty Teaching Awards have been awarded to Dr Irena Koprinska for outstanding teaching and new curriculum design; and Dr James Curran and Dr Tara Murphy for innovation in teaching.

Professor Judy Kay was awarded the 2008 CORE Teaching Award (Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia) for her long term contributions to teaching, including her excellence in postgraduate supervision.

Associate Professor Joseph Davis was the only Australian academic to win an IBM Faculty Award in 2008. This international award promotes courseware and curriculum innovation to stimulate growth in disciplines and geographies that are strategic to IBM.

Associate Professor Joseph Davis is also participating in a project funded by the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. The Institute is Australia’s key government agency responsible for promoting and supporting strategic change that enhances learning and teaching in Australian universities. Funding from the Institute is extremely competitive.

In 2009 the University of Sydney received over $5 million from the Federal Government’s Learning and Teaching Performance Fund.
