Future students - Postgraduate coursework

Welcome

The School of IT postgraduate coursework programs offer a carefully chosen blend of principles and practice in computer science, information management systems and software engineering.

Our experience shows that broadly there are three categories of students who are interested in postgraduate studies and our program has been designed to serve these students.

  • Enhancers: are students who already have a formal undergraduate or postgraduate background in IT and are seeking a course to enhance or upgrade their skills. IT is a fast moving discipline and new technologies are continuously being developed. However, our emphasis is to highlight the principles which underpin these new technologies - “new wine in old bottle.” For these students, we offer the Master of Information Technology (MIT). The MIT is a modular one year (2 semester) program where students can choose and combine subjects from ten majors to design a course to suit their preference and needs.
  • Management Aspirants: These are students who have been working in the IT industry in a technical role, who now want to learn about management aspects of IT. For them, we offer the Master of Information Technology Management (MITM). This is a unique degree which combines management principles in an IT context and “what goes on in the real world.” Industry practitioners from leading IT companies are regularly invited to teach courses and present guest lectures.
  • Re-skillers: We offer the Graduate Diploma in Computing (GDC) for those who do not have a formal background in IT but want a starting point to begin their journey into the illuminating and fast evolving world of Information Technology. The GDC provides a seamless pathway into the MIT degree.

Whatever the program, there are two salient features which distinguish us:

  1. Students, who do exceedingly well in their first semester of studies may have an opportunity to apply for a full-time internship scholarship in their second semester. The internship is carefully crafted so it can count towards coursework credit.
  2. We offer a research path for outstanding students i.e. those who do well in their first semester. These students can choose to do a research project in their second semester, which can open up the possibilities to apply for a research degree like Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

I look forward to welcoming you to our School in the future.
