Graduate Diploma in Computing

Program aims

This program is for graduates in areas other than IT who are seeking a career change, either by moving into the IT industry or by enhancing their existing career with IT qualifications. The Graduate Diploma in Computing provides grounding in essential IT topics. For many students this provides the required amount of IT skills to enhance their existing career. For students seeking further IT study, the Graduate Diploma in Computing prepares students for admission to the Master of Information Technology.

Graduate attributes

Upon completion of the Graduate Diploma in Computing, graduates will have sound knowledge of the foundations of today’s information technology. This includes algorithms, data structures, programming and networking, as well as an introduction to system analysis and information systems.

The GDC has been accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) at the Associate Level.

Admission requirements

A Bachelor’s degree, with a credit average, in a discipline other than IT. Applicants are assumed to possess significant numeracy skills such as those found in a Science or Engineering degree. Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in other areas who have completed relevant subjects with a mathematical foundation will also be eligible. Alternatively, applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and who have worked in information technology for more than 5 years are eligible.

Course duration

2 semesters full-time or part-time equivalent. Mid-year entry is available. Classes are generally held in the evening between 6:00 and 9:00pm to accommodate professionals who are employed during the day.
