Established in 2005 by a donation from Microsoft Research Asia, the purpose of the scholarship is to encourage excellence in the field of information technology. The scholarship is open to all students enrolling in the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Adv), or Bachelor of Information Technology degrees, and will be awarded based on academic merit, assessment of details provided on an application form, and performance in an interview. The scholarship holder shall be required, if selected, to take part in an industry placement at Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing. |

The CSIRO ICT Centre IT Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship aims to encourage high-performing students entering the first year of an undergraduate course in the School of Information Technologies. The scholarship shall be open to all citizens or permanent residents of Australia who qualify in their final year of schooling to enrol in one of the degrees offered by the School of Information Technologies within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies. Eligible programs include the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Advanced), Bachelor of Information Technology. Students enrolling in the following combined degrees will also be eligible: BIT/BA, BIT/BCom, BIT/BSc, BIT/BMedSci and BIT/LLB. Awards will be made on the basis of academic merit, and full-time enrolment. No applications are required. The awards will only be available for students commencing in semester 1 of the academic year. The student will also be given the opportunity to spend one week work experience at the ICT Centre under supervision of a staff member during the summer vacation. |

| The Google Australia Prize for Excellence in Computer Science | $1000 | 1 | To encourage high achieving students in the computer science stream in the Bachelor of IT to undertake Honours studies. The prize will be awarded annually to a third year student with the most outstanding performance in the computer science stream of the BIT who have achieved a distinction average over the first 3 years of full-time candidature in BIT, and is progressing to an Honours year. The prize cannot be shared. |

| Soprano Software Engineering Prize | $1000 | 1 | Established in 2000 by the offer of an annual donation by Soprano Design Pty Ltd., the prize is to encourage excellence in software engineering. Each year the best Computer Science and/or Information Systems Honours students will be invited to present their projects to a committee comprising the Head of the School of Information Technologies and the Management Team of Soprano Design, provided their work is of sufficient merit. The prize shall be awarded to one of these students on the recommendation of the committee. |
