Perusal of Examination Scripts
1. Resolutions of the Academic Board of the University
The Manual for Examiners 2002 produced by the Academic Board of the University states (p26) that:
Departments are asked to make arrangements for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students, on request, to peruse and, where they so desire, to obtain (a copy of) their examination scripts or any other written answers to examination questions, provided that:
a) the request is made within the script retention period (four months), and
b) in the case of examinations involving confidential examination papers, where examination questions are used on more than one occasion, students may peruse under supervision, but not obtain a copy of, the examination paper and their answers to the questions.
Students should realise that this review is not a mechanism for acquiring additional marks, it is simply an opportunity to peruse their marked script. Except in cases where an error is revealed, no changes will be made to the original mark awarded as a result of the review process.
Under no circumstances will marks ratified by the board of examiners be altered as a result of a review or requests from a student.
2. The process for Reviewing an Examination Script
Notification of examination review days will be posted on the School of Information Technologies' website - please check the site regularly.
- Students need to obtain a copy of the 'Request to Peruse Examination Script' form from the School office. The completed form must be received by the School before the due date stipulated on it.
- Attend on the day and time specified. Reviews of examination scripts will normally be held in the week before the following semester commences. You will need to have your student id card with you for identification purposes. All materials must be left outside the room. Only the examination script will be provided for you to peruse.
